High End Vienna 2026: More Than a Trade Show
For decades, High End has been the annual meeting point for the global audio community.
A place where manufacturers, distributors, retailers, journalists, and music lovers
come together to discover what is new, exchange ideas, reconnect with familiar faces, and experience high-performance audio in person.
This year marked a new chapter.
After more than two decades in Munich, High End opened its doors in Vienna for the first time.
Set in one of Europe's great musical capitals, the 2026 edition retained everything the industry values about the exhibition while bringing a renewed sense of energy and curiosity to the experience.
For Ortofon, High End Vienna marked an important milestone, and we had the pleasure of unveiling MC Vertex – the most ambitious cartridge creation in our 100-year history – alongside MC X50, the newest addition to the MC X Series.
Together, the two cartridges represent different expressions of the same pursuit.
MC Vertex explores the outer limits of cartridge design, bringing together the newly developed Vertex diamond, a solid diamond cantilever, titanium SLM structure, refined magnetic system, and advanced damping technology. MC X50 builds on the established MC X platform with a nude Micro Ridge diamond, boron cantilever, and a newly developed rubber suspension, delivering a new level of refinement within the series.
While High End is known for its product launches, it is equally defined by the conversations that take place around them. It is an opportunity to hear how new products are received, understand what captures people's attention, and exchange perspectives with the people who listen, review, distribute, install, sell, and live with high-performance audio every day.
One of the most encouraging observations from Vienna was the continued curiosity surrounding analogue playback. The questions we received often went beyond specifications and technical details. Visitors wanted to understand the reasoning behind material choices, stylus geometries, damping solutions, and how seemingly small decisions in design ultimately shape the listening experience.
The response following the exhibition reinforced this impression. What Hi-Fi? included MC Vertex among its most exciting products from High End Vienna 2026, while AVForums described MC X50 as "a formidable offering" and referred to MC Vertex's performance as "genuinely special." More than external recognition, these reactions reflected something larger: a continuing fascination with what analogue reproduction can achieve and how far it can still evolve.
Beyond the launches and demonstrations, High End also offered moments dedicated simply to listening.
Throughout the exhibition, Ortofon participated in the newly introduced Vinyl Alliance Listening Sessions, where albums curated by Vinyl Alliance partners were presented across a range of exceptional playback systems. The programme celebrated the remarkable breadth of music that continues to thrive on vinyl.
Visitors could revisit Pink Floyd's Wish You Were Here in its 50th anniversary edition, rediscover the intricate layers of Radiohead's OK Computer, or immerse themselves in the expansive and genre-defying world of Kamasi Washington's The Epic. More contemporary expressions, from the atmospheric textures of Cocteau Twins' Heaven or Las Vegas to the rhythmic precision of Floating Points' Crush, reminded us that vinyl culture continues to evolve alongside the artists and listeners who shape it.
What united these listening experiences was not genre, era, or familiarity. It was the opportunity to sit down, listen attentively, and perhaps discover something new – whether in a record you had never heard before or one you thought you knew by heart.
High End reminded us that analogue remains as engaging and relevant as ever – not only because of the products themselves, but because of the people, music, and ideas that continue to move it forward.
To everyone who visited us in Vienna, attended our launch event, listened with us, and took the time to share your impressions: thank you.
Thank you for sharing this moment with us.
